Mistakenly Put Screenwash or Water into the AdBlue Tank?
It’s an easy mistake to make—the filler necks are often right next to each other.
However, contaminating your AdBlue tank with screenwash, water, or any other fluid will quickly trigger dashboard error codes and can permanently damage your vehicle’s sensitive Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system.

Expert AdBlue Tank Decontamination & Resets
How We Help: To prevent your vehicle from entering "non-start" limp mode, our technicians will drain the contaminated AdBlue tank entirely.
We then thoroughly cleanse the reservoir and refill it with premium, pure AdBlue, saving you from a costly trip to the garage for a total system replacement.

What Happens if Left Untreated:
-
Dashboard warning lights and countdown timers preventing engine restarts.
-
Irreparable damage to the expensive SCR catalyst catalyst system.
-
Vehicle failure to pass MOT emissions tests.

The Chemistry Problem: How Screenwash Destroys Your Exhaust Chemistry
-
It is incredibly easy to mistake the blue-capped AdBlue reservoir for your windscreen washer fluid bottle, especially on modern cars and vans where the filler necks sit right next to each other under the fuel filler flap or beneath the bonnet. However, crossing these fluids causes immediate, highly expensive trouble for your vehicle's emissions framework.
-
Your vehicle’s Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system relies on a highly precise chemical balance to break down dangerous NOx emissions into harmless nitrogen and water. AdBlue must remain completely pure. Screenwash contains alcohols, detergents, dyes, and surfactants. When these chemicals enter the SCR system, they instantly poison the expensive catalytic element, blind the sensitive NOx sensors, and can cause the dosing pump to seize up entirely.

Why You Cannot Just "Drive It Off"

Unlike a fuel tank mistake, a contaminated AdBlue tank might not cause the engine to sputter immediately.
Instead, the vehicle's onboard diagnostic computer (ECU) will detect a change in fluid quality or exhaust emissions almost right away.
Once the sensors register that the fluid is incorrect, your dashboard will light up with warning messages, and the vehicle will initiate a countdown timer.
If that countdown reaches zero, the car will enter a permanent "non-start" limp mode to comply with environmental laws.
Once this happens, you cannot restart the vehicle without an expensive digital software reset at a main dealer.
